Girl Scouts earn two different types of patches. The first set of patches are merit patches and earned through series of activities and lessons which are developed specifically for the different scouting levels. The second patches are fun patches. The fun patches are given to girls for attending events, trying new things or going to new places. The fun patches go on the back of the vest whereas the merit patches go on the front. These DIY felt patches are fun to make and would be fantastic for girls to create prior to an event that they have planned. Whether they plan to make the patches for themselves or to give younger girls that come to their event, they are sure to be a hit.

To make the patches, you will need the following materials.

• 9” x 12” craft cuts of Kunin Classicfelt in a variety of colors
• Scissors
• Aleene’s Fabric Fusion
• Sewing Machine or Needles/Threads
• Ellison SuperStar Machine and Badge Dies by Laura Kelly

Start by creating your badge bases. It works best if you apply the adhesive strip to the felt FIRST and then run it through the die-cut machine. This will ensure that you get a perfect match up of the felt and the adhesive.

Create your design for your patch with a badge die. Use the same method of adhering the fabric fusion first so you can peel and stick your patches together. There are lots to choose from or you can create your own. This tree would be perfect to give out at a park clean-up or even a hike in the woods.

The kitty would be great for an animal shelter tour or a pet food drive. By adding a few hand stitches, your patch gets details.

Paint spots are great for arts and crafts, whether a class or a project. Buttons are an easy embellishment for patches too.

The tennis shoe would be fantastic for a walkathon or any sporting event. By stitching around the patch, a border is created that adds a little pizazz.
